What is the ratio for gum paste to fondant for roses?

I am trying to make gum paste roses for a friends wedding cake. I tried a 50/50 mix but it came out too dry and my petals kept cracking, tearing and I couldn't get a good thin ripple on the petal edge no matter how I tried it. Getting frustrated and I have to finish these in time to dry to be placed on the cake.
