What USUALLY happens to shoplifters that do include the cops being called on the thief?

No. I know a person who got caught shoplifting. The cop came and took all her info and gave her a summons to appear in court. He told her if she did not show up, she would be arrested. She showed up and she was fined $100 and given a warning that the next time would not be so easy on her! To my knowledge, she never shoplifted again! (No it was not me, it was a girl I went to high school with. I would have been scared spitless to try that! My parents ever found out and I would just need a grave, never mind jail!)
