How do i develop my psychic abilities?

I have been dedicated to learning more about myself and the world like this for many years ( I'm 28) At the moment I meditate regularly, usually at night before sleeping. I also have very vivid dreams which i have become quite good at understanding. Although I can often control my dreams I am unable to astral travel while conscious/ meditating. I rely quite heavily on my intuition and it guides me to make my life choices. My friends ad family have noticed that I am very intuitive. I want to learn more about how to develop these abilities but sometimes I am scared i might leave myself vunerable to psychic vampires if that makes sense. Any advice?
